Assessment of your German language level
At the Goethe-Institut, you can attend both online and face-to-face courses. With our online programmes, you can learn German wherever and whenever you like – with or without a teacher. Classroom courses offer you direct personal contact with teachers and other learners, and offer you the opportunity to apply what you have learned directly in real-life situations.
Once you have found your favourite place and accommodation for a German course, or decided to take an online course, we will find out together which level of German you should study. You can take our assessment test for free online or on site.
Once you have done that, you can choose between an online, intensive, evening, morning or weekend course at your level. Levels A1 and A2 are for beginners; B1 and B2 build on this and are designed to enable you to use the language independently; C1 and C2 are the final levels, which will give you autonomous language competence. These levels correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
After completing each level, you can take an examination. All Goethe-Institut examinations are internationally valued as qualifications and recognised by many employers and educational institutions.
The best way to learn any language is to communicate with the locals in everyday life. For this purpose, we offer an extensive cultural and leisure programme. You can try out and improve your German language skills in a relaxed atmosphere on city tours, at cooking events, in art exhibitions, in open-air cinema, in museums or by doing sports, and meet other people learning German from all over the world at the same time.
I used to find learning German really difficult and I tried lots of different things. But on the language course at the Goethe-Institut, I suddenly started making rapid progress.
